If you’ve ever wanted to work in healthcare but didn’t think you could because you don’t have a degree, you’ll be glad to know there are some ways to get your foot in the door without going back to school!
Many healthcare employers now offer remote positions that only require a high school diploma or some minimal customer service experience.
These jobs could be great options if you want to earn steady pay from home while doing work that helps people!
Below are five legitimate healthcare jobs you can do remotely, plus I’ve included some examples of companies that regularly hire for them.
Note that the companies I’ve listed as suggestions for finding these types of jobs are NOT all hiring for those roles right now. These are just suggestions, and it’s a good idea to bookmark them if you don’t find what you are looking for now. A job that fits with what you want could be posted at a later date.
1. Telehealth Customer Service Representative
Telehealth support specialists help patients schedule appointments, answer questions, and use virtual care systems. You’re not providing medical advice in these jobs. Instead, you’re helping with the technology and making sure people have a good experience.
These jobs are perfect if you have a calm, helpful personality and strong communication skills.
Typical requirements: High school diploma or GED, customer service background, good computer skills, and comfort using video or chat software.

2. Medical Billing and Insurance Claims Specialist
Medical billing and coding jobs are some of the most in-demand remote healthcare roles. In these jobs, you process insurance claims, check codes for accuracy, and make sure doctors and hospitals get paid correctly.
While most coding positions DO require certification, it’s sometimes possible to find entry-level billing roles where you are trained on the job.
Typical requirements: High school diploma, attention to detail, basic understanding of healthcare terms, and willingness to learn billing software.

3. Remote Patient Advocate or Care Coordinator
Patient advocates and care coordinators work directly with patients to help them understand treatment plans, find affordable care, and manage insurance or paperwork.
If you land one of these jobs, you’ll spend much of your day communicating with patients over the phone or email, making sure they’re getting the help they need.
Typical requirements: Great communication and problem-solving skills, empathy, and some customer service or healthcare background.

A virtual medical assistant handles the admin side of healthcare. This is typically things like scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, entering patient data, and following up on test results. Similar to virtual assistant work, but you’re doing it for a med office.

Typical requirements: High school diploma, strong organization skills, ability to type and navigate electronic health record systems.

5. Health Coach or Wellness Support Specialist
Health coaches are tasked with helping their clients make better lifestyle choices around nutrition, exercise, and stress management. In these positions, you’re not acting as a medical professional, but rather more like a motivator and accountability partner. These jobs have become much more common as telehealth and wellness apps have grown in popularity.
Typical requirements: Usually no degree needed, though training in fitness, nutrition, or mental health is a plus. You should be encouraging, goal-oriented, and good at keeping clients on track.

I hope this gives you some ideas if you want to break into the medical field but lack a degree. While a degree is still a good thing to have, you can certainly get your foot in the door without one for certain types of positions.
