You may be surprised to learn that you don’t need to be an active Minister, Rabbi, or Priest to officiate weddings. Each state has different requirements for becoming an Officiant; however, the process typically involves obtaining ordination through a non-denominational church and then registering with your state. However, not all states require registration.
Once you have the qualifications, you can let others know that you’re open for business. As a Wedding Officiant, you’ll consult with the couple to determine the type of ceremony they desire, and then create the script for the wedding. While most of your duties can be performed at home, officiating the wedding will take place at the venue chosen by the couple for their wedding ceremony.
According to ZipRecruiter, full-time Wedding Officiants earn an annual salary of $85,006. One thing to consider about this occupation is that most weddings typically take place on weekends. So, in reality, you may only conduct a few ceremonies each week. Additionally, while people get married throughout the year, the most popular months are June, September, and October. Due to the sporadic nature of weddings, this would most likely be best as a part-time business.
