If you’re someone who already spends a lot of time on social media, you’ll be happy to know you can get paid for it. Social media and online community moderation are real jobs that many companies hire for, and most of them let you work from home.

Some of these companies look for people with experience, but not all of them! You don’t need a degree for many of these jobs, and training is often provided. So if you like chatting with people, solving problems, and making sure online spaces stay safe and friendly, the options in today’s post may be right up your alley!

Below are some well-known companies that hire moderators and social media workers. While not all of them are hiring at this exact moment, they do post jobs regularly. So if something catches your eye, be sure to check back on their openings soon.

What does a moderator do?

A moderator helps keep online communities safe, fun, and respectful. This could mean watching conversations on Reddit, Facebook, TikTok, or inside an app or game.

If someone breaks the rules, the moderator might delete their post or give them a warning. Other times, moderators answer questions, help solve problems, or report serious issues to a manager.

Some of these jobs focus on helping brands run their social media pages. And then others are more behind-the-scenes, like reviewing user content or keeping an eye out for anything harmful.

How much do moderators make?

According to Glassdoor, the average salary for a social media moderator is around $40,000 per year.

You should be mindful that some jobs pay more depending on your experience or location. If you’re bilingual or have technical skills, that can also lead to higher pay for these types of jobs.

ICUC

ICUC works with big brands to help manage their online communities. They occasionally hire moderators to work from home in the U.S. and Canada. Not all roles require experience, and they offer typically offer training. Jobs open and close quickly, so check often.

Ignite sometimes posts remote jobs for community managers. They’re usually looking for people in the U.S. who have some knowledge of how to engage with communities online.

LiveWorld

LiveWorld hires “social media agents” to help monitor online activity. These jobs don’t require experience and are usually available year-round. You’ll help keep conversations friendly and follow the rules set by each brand or platform.

Metaverse Mod Squad

Metaverse frequently has openings for people to monitor chat rooms, forums, and content for all types of clients. You might work on projects involving child safety, customer service, or social media posts. They call their team members “Mods.”

Gaggle

Gaggle focuses on keeping students safe online. Their reviewers monitor emails, Google Drive files, and other digital tools for schools. This job is only available in the U.S., and Gaggle is almost always hiring although positions vary.

99 Dollar Social

99 Dollar Social supposedly hires social media content specialists, but being honest I have not seen this role open in quite a long time. The work involves creating and scheduling posts for small businesses.

Bazaarvoice

Bazaarvoice works with e-commerce brands to moderate product reviews and user-generated content. Their “Content Analyst” jobs are remote and sometimes open in the U.S.

The Social Element

The Social Element has a global team of moderators and community managers. These jobs aren’t always available, but they post new ones from time to time.

Belay

Belay is a company that helps businesses hire remote workers for different roles, including social media managers. If you’re interested in helping brands grow their presence online, keep Belay on your radar. They often look for people who are great at writing captions, creating engagement, and scheduling posts when they are hiring for their social media assistant roles.

Is the job you want not open now?

Don’t worry if you visit a site and don’t see an open position right away. These jobs open and close fast, so just:
